~ About the Photographer ~

Mexican-American photographer Dan Chavez, a native of Tucson, AZ, has had a passion for photography since he first used his Dad's 35 mm Argus camera as a teenager. Photography is his link to the creative process that has inspired and nurtured artists for centuries.

The amazing digital innovations in recent years that have revolutionized the photographic arts  have only served to heighten Chavez's passion for the art form. Modern digital photography, along with use of the basic principles of color, composition and design afford today’s photographers endless artistic expression. Chavez feels "each photograph is part of a process, the result of research, experimentation, persistence, luck and accident."

In 2002 Chavez founded FotoVentures and has been displaying and selling his work at Art Shows and Exhibitions in Southern Arizona for over 15 years. In 2015 Chavez started working as a freelance writer-photographer seeking new markets to showcase is photography and share his appreciation for Mexican, Latin American and Spanish culture and traditions. Chavez has traveled extensively gathering material, taking pictures and scouting locations in Colonial Mexico, Cuba, South America, Europe and the Middle East as well as the missions of California and New Mexico and the historic barrios of Southern Arizona in search of unique settings and topics for his projects.  His inspiration and subject matter is drawn from an interest in history and a fascination with the culture and traditions of the past.  These adventures have resulted in a varied and eclectic collection of images and articles. “Individuals can look at the same subject matter, yet each person’s experience is unique and their own. Hopefully, through my eyes and camera lens, my images and articles will allow people to experience the beauty of other places and other times.”  After founding FotoVentures in 2003, Chavez began to actively pursue showing and marketing his work. You can check out Chavez's blog where you can see his latest projects.

Chavez is active in community fundraising, donating his time and artwork to charitable causes including BICAS (Bicycle Inter-Community Action & Salvage), the Tucson Botanical Gardens and Toys-for-Tots.

Dan Chavez and FotoVentures wish to extend a special note of thanks to Jones Photo and Ziemba Photographic-Arts in Tucson, AZ, whose technical guidance, mentorship and patience have been invaluable. And, “to my wife and compass, whose support and critical eye help to guide me.”
